Topic: Alt+Text for Images 

Adding alternative text (alt text) to images is a fundamental step in basic website accessibility. This session will cover 1) the purpose of alt text, 2) basics of formulating alt text, 3) how to apply alt text to images on documents and in the website CMS WordPress. Note: while this will specifically demonstrate the use of alt text on WordPress, the general principles will apply to most/all website content management systems.

The Website Accessibility Learning Group meets on the third Tuesday of the month, 11 AM - 12 PM.

This group will focus on learning about and determining specific steps LEANWI website library staff need to take to come into compliance with the new Title II (public entities) ADA requirements for accessibility of websites and mobile devices (https://www.ada.gov/resources/small-entity-compliance-guide/). 

Regular meet-up for those with basic website skills who want to become more proficient and efficient at 
managing their website. Come prepared to log in to your website, share your screen, and ask your questions.

Topic: Accessible Documents (Word, PDF, etc.)

If you post any kind of "document" to your website - a PDF, Word document, Excel, PowerPoint, or the Google/OpenOffice alternatives - you will need to assure those documents are accessible to screen readers and assistive technologies. This session will cover 1) purpose of document accessibility, 2) basics principles, and 3) demonstration of some accessibility features for documents. Note: this is an evolving area as we work towards full website accessibility, and the session provides an introductory overview and practical examples.
