  • Website Office Hour - The Americans with Disabilities Act and the (LEANWI) Public Library Website

    September 9, 2024  1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Topic: The Americans with Disabilities Act and the (LEANWI) Public Library Website
In August the US Department of Justice released new rules requiring all public entity websites (government, schools, libraries) to be fully ADA compliant by 2026 (for those serving populations 50,000+) or 2027 (for those serving populations up to 49,999). This session will define website accessibility in terms of the ADA and introduce how the rules apply to all public library websites. We will also discuss steps LEANWI will be taking to assure compliance for their hosted websites.

    Topic: Website Accessibility Essentials
In light of the new ADA accessibility rules that apply to public library websites, this session will review the basics of website accessibility - terminology, standards, tools for testing your website, and your role in assuring accessibility. Note that we expect the environment and tools for website accessibility to evolve rapidly in the coming years, so this is a good time to begin learning the essentials as we move to full compliance.
